2020 FORD SUPER DUTY F250 BAJA FORGED Edition

We are starting our series off with our BAJA FORGED Ford F250 4wd. This was the perfect platform for what we needed but it can be a pretty big truck for most. We wanted a vehicle that could handle the weight we were adding, still be able to tow our 32 ft fifth wheel, and act as a chase truck with a good ride. So we chose the F250 as the platform since it checked all the boxes on our list.
I want to start off by talking about what is underneath this truck and what it takes to support the heavy load that was added. The number one thing that gets overlooked when someone is setting up their vehicle is their suspension set up. When building these amazing vehicles to go out and do what you need it to do, a lot of people focus on the camping set up first and not what is supporting you getting there and back. Adding that new heavy load is one of the number one things that affects the way your vehicle handles as well as adding wear and tear in a different way.
Your stock suspension is set up to carry your factory weight and most are set up to handle mostly street with light off-roading. When adding this new weight it puts a lot of stress on your suspension, steering components, and much more that can break or fail when you are out on a trail.
We have been on wash boards roads that have done more damage than a more technical sections. This is why retorques are extremely important before AND after going on a trail. Also, always make sure to BRING TOOLS with you when heading out.
On our F250, we installed the ICON Vehicle Dynamic 4.5″ stage 5 kit …this kit includes 2.5 Shocks, Dual Rated springs kit, adjustable trac bar, Dual Steering stabilizer and Upper and Lower 4-link system. We get asked a lot by our customers why we push ICON so much and the truth is we believe in their product! ICON offers a holistic engineering style, which means they build all their components to work together for the best possible engineered product. We offer may different suspension brands and are familiar with most of them out there and all brands offer different pros and cons. When we suggest a brand to our customer, it’s because we know it’s the best one for your set up, even if we don’t sell the brand.
In addition to the ICON kit we added the Hellwig Product front and Rear Sway Bars, plus their Bigwig Airbags and the Viair OBA (On Board Air) system as well as the Transfer flow midship Tank to get that extra mileage range we were looking for.

FRONT LOWER LINKS

In this article, let’s focus on suspension. This kit comes with a Dual Rate spring…If you notice from the picture above that the top of the spring has a tighter coil than the bottom of the spring. This is how you can tell it is a dual rate, otherwise the coil spring will look the same from top to bottom. The top of the coil is the 1st phase of the spring, this is for street driving. The bottom half where the coil starts to change is called the 2nd phase and this portion is used for the heavier conditions or off-road. I always recommend going with a dual rate spring to give you the best of both worlds. Some companies also have a heavy duty spring that can help with that added weight, like a roof top tent or the extra gear, but those are mostly for vehicles that have a rear coil spring set up.
This suspension set up has a 2.5 VS PB CDCV shocks…. Now for the average person that is a mouth full of acronyms, but here is the break down of what that all means. 2.5 is the diameter size of the shock body. VS means “Vehicle Specific”, this is more important than most people think because not all shocks are VS. Some companies will have the correct length and ends you need for your vehicle but only offer a few options for the valving… and the valving in how the shock works is everything! PB means “Piggy Back” which is talking about the reservoir that is located on the side of the shock body ( you can have a PB or a RR, “Remote Reservoir”, which is attached by hose that can be mounted away from the shock body or to another location of your choice.) CDCV is short for “Compression Damping Control Valve”. CDCV technologies allows for 10 different compression damping levels that can easily be adjusted by a knob located on the reservoir. This allows you personally to adjust how you would like your vehicle to ride due to the terrain or load you have on your vehicle. Say your vehicle is a daily driver, so you set the CDCV knob to the softer settings. Now if you want to hit the trails on the weekend, you can get out and adjust those knobs to a harder setting. We played with ours a few times while going out to see what setting we liked ours set to and now we know when we head out just where we want to set them for the perfect ride. So we just used the word “Compression” . Compression is self explanatory, its when the shock compresses from a bump or force. The opposite motion of compression is “Rebound”. Rebound is when the shock returns to its original state after being compressed.
Lets dive inside the shock for a minute. The valving of the shock is what helps control the flow oil inside the shocks. There are small flat valve stacks that sit on top of the shock shaft that is located inside the shock body. The oil for the shock get pressed through the valve stacks and depending on the size of the valve stacks, it regulates how fast the oil flows through it. These shocks have a combination of oil and nitrogen. When you are told your shock has a 210 psi, “Pounds per Square Inch,” they are talking about the nitrogen charge. This is something you have to check every once in awhile. You don’t want to run your nitrogen below 100 psi because it could cause the nitrogen to leak out and then you have no nitrogen and a shock that will not work at its full potential. Check with your shock manufacturer to see where they recommend to set your shocks psi at. We normally charge $10 per shock to recharge them. We check ours before every off-road trip.
Next, at the very top of the photo above, there is a long black bar that has a heim joint at one end, this is the adjustable trac bar. The trac bars job is to center the axle underneath the vehicle correctly. When lifting a vehicle it is recommended to go with an aftermarket adjustable trac bar to make sure that adjust for the shift in the axle position from it’s new ride height.
Honestly… when getting into shocks and all the different types it can get to be overwhelming! So even though I might cover some of the tech lingo and the basics on how it all works, there are some really great videos out there that will cover the more in depth discussion on how a shock works and all the differences. I included some videos below that ICON provided and I suggest checking them out…..
In this article I covered some of the basics on the suspension set up we have on our Ford F250 Super Duty and wanted to help you understand more of the tech lingo as well as the function of it. But really this series is about the importance of your vehicle set up. There are reasons these companies spend so much time and effort to create these products that work. They really do make a huge difference and we want to make sure when you are making this investment into your vehicle that you are making the best decision for your set up. We’re always here to help you select the best suspension combo for your set up.
Overlanding series: Part 1 was all about suspension… but if you follow the rest of the series, I will cover some more products and the importance of them as well as help guide you in setting up the perfect rig for you and your needs!

Overlanding seems to be a huge topic these days and I completely understand why. For many years people have been exploring our great land and seeking adventures that are beyond the pavement. With the way that our world has been changing we’ve seen a huge increase in the Overland and camping scene.
We’ve been in the off-road industry for over 37 years and every year we continue to grow in this marketplace. As fellow adventure seekers we get a lot of customers that ask us for our opinions on many different topics, that is why we started these blogs. So if you ever have questions about something we mentioned or didn’t mention, reply to this email and we will try to answer it as best of possible.
On this series we will be talking about our Overlanding adventures. There is nothing like getting out there and just soaking it all in and expanding our Horizons….When I am out on a trail and discovering something new that just gives me this a feeling that reminds me that we are all part of something that is so much bigger. There is this great big world out there that is just waiting to be discovered…well discovered by us.
So you are like YES, lets do this!! I am READY! Packed up and ready to head out of town…. BUT are you ready for this great adventure?
I have done blogs about “Are YOU ready to off-road” and it had some great tips but setting up your rig for overlanding is a different game. This month we will be talking about Overlanding and some basics to start with, but there is a whole big world when getting into this subject. For now I wanted to start with the foundation.
This will be a 6-part series to make sure that you understand everything you need before heading out. Each week we will cover one Vehicle and the set up on that vehicle. Each featured build vehicle has a completely different set up for a different life style, use, or specific Rigs. We will also include one product review for an essential camping item and a recommendation for a destination point.
The first section about the vehicle may get a little technical but I want to make sure that I cover everything to make your adventure the best it can be.
The proper set up is very crucial and often overlooked. This could make or break your trip. There is so much to talk about on this topic, so I am going to dive into mostly suspension and the basic lingo that you need to know, if you want more technical tips, just email me and I will answer them the best I can.

METHOD RACE WHEELS BEAD GRIP TECHNOLOGY

I picked the Method Race Wheel Bead Grip as our featured product on this newsletter, mainly for the reason that it’s great technology and not a lot of people know about it and they should. When off-roading the first thing we do when hitting the trail head is air down our tires and make sure they are at the correct PSI for the terrain we are about to hit. What some people might not know, is you can’t go below a certain PSI on most wheels, otherwise you will pop a bead and no one wants that. You may hear about beadlock wheels and if you are a serious off-roader you have them on your vehicle. Bead locks are great and you can air down to low as you need. The issue with beadlocks, they are not D.O.T basically they are NOT street legal and beadlocks require maintenance they can loose air and you need to check your bolts. The BEAD GRIP Technology from Method Race wheels, allows you to run a street legal wheel and to still be able to air down to that lower air pressure that you need for the dirt road. LONE PINE/ALABAMA HILLS, CA

Our featured destination is Lone Pine/Alabama Hills area located in California, located in east of Sequoia National park and Death Valley National Park.

We were introduced to this location from the Nitto Tire, Driving Line Team when they invited us to be in episode 3 of their new series “On The Trial” all the photos above are from our trip when we were there last November.

I picked this location for a few different reasons. One, It’s beautiful here, cold but beautiful. with the Sequoia National Park mountain range as your back drop you can’t get a bad view from any angle.

  1. The history in this area is unreal! Beside the countless movies that feature this area. It is also the home of the famous Manzanar National Historical Site which was a Japanese internment camp, which is a part of our history.
  2. The off-roading and exploring in this area is amazing….so many different terrain and some many areas to go and visit. We checked out the rewards Mine which is this crazy mine that you can drive inside of….My sister drove the Ranger in, I walked. lol.

This was such a beautiful trip and the drive was easy to get up there. I highly recommend adding this to your todo list of trips to explore.

BIG BEAR TRAIL DAY A HIT

So I am sure you have heard me say this before and I will say it again…. We love off-roading and we love to have people join us! A few times a year we will invite our friends and customers to hit the trails with us. We do different levels of trails and yes sometimes we push people to go a little bit beyond what they are use to… but I always say it’s better to go out and learn how to handle these terrains with people that know what they are doing for your first time then. Whenever we are invited to go out with Off-Roaders that are more experienced then us, we also try to say yes… It’s were we learn the most. So, if you are ever nervous about joining one of our trial days, don’t be, we are here for you!
So, a few weeks ago we hit the trials of Big Bear, Ca. We met up in Fawnskin, CA at 9:30 am on a pretty warm Saturday for our local mountains where we briefed the group on trail etiquette for those new to the scene. Wheels were up at 10:00 am as we departed north on Rim of the World Drive to the trail head at 3N14. We had 33 vehicles join us from all over southern California show up for a fun (unofficial) trail day on a early Saturday morning. From modified Jeeps, stock Jeeps and SUVs to Raptors, full-size trucks and daily drivers. Of course we took our 2019 Ford Ranger to lead the group, and our Gen 1 Ford Raptor for our recovery/Chase vehicle.
We had a pretty amazing group…. large, but amazing mix. A lot of new faces joined us and some familiar faces attended to also lend a hand and support the group including Sean Holman and Jay Tilles from The Truck Show Podcast, the team (Cody, Matt, and Jose) from Trail Chasers Podcast (talk about some fun radio banter), Funshine Jeep Girls Club, Jason and Marcel from Auto Revolution, AJ and the Team from Paramount Automotive and Dave Cole, creator of ULTRA4 Racing and King of the Hammers. We followed the planned route that we pre-ran a few weeks before using our OnX GPS app and can confidently report that everyone had a great time, even the few vehicles that had to decline the hill climbs because their vehicles just weren’t quite equipped to make the obstacles. Maybe they’ll take advantage of our July Summer Sale going on now (shameless business plug 😉 – details below).
In the end, everyone tackled their fears and did a great job out on the trail. We can’t wait to do it again soon. Hopefully we will see you out in the dirt with us!

Get ready to hit the Dirt……
This Saturday ? Trail Day, July 11th
We are excited you are JOINING US in Big Bear! We will be heading out for a mild day of off-roading in the Big Bear Mountain area on July 11th!

We love to explore the different tails that are right in our back yard and would like to invite you to join us! This will be a mild to moderate off-road trail day (perfect for beginners). Nothing too challenging, but there will be some narrow, off-camber areas and some loose or mild rock sections; nothing difficult, great for learning and fun for everyone!

Since we are all responsibly practicing social distancing we will keep our stops to a minimum and as such this is an unofficial trail run. That said, we will stop randomly and briefly if there are area we want to explore and you may do so at your own risk. We want to go out and enjoy the great outdoors and its not safe to go off-roading alone, especially if you are new to off-road driving. This is a great way to meet others that love to drive on dirt (like us) and we will be onsite to assist if needed. If you need help on the trail please feel free to ask and we will give you the best guidance we can.

Hey Everyone,

We are super excited about our upcoming trail day on July 11th looks like we are going to have a good size group. We have received a few email with a couple of questions about the big day. On July 8th we will send out an email with all the details for the day…but here are a few items that you can make sure to pack and have ready.

What exactly is considered Specialty Vehicle Collision Repair?

We consider vehicles that have any custom modifications like lifted trucks, lowered cars, classic customs, or custom paint jobs that have any type of damage as Specialty Vehicle Collision Repair. Many standard collision repair shops do not work on these types of vehicles. These vehicle repairs take unique skill and require an experienced shop that has the knowhow to get these vehicles back on the road.

Our team at LGE-CTS Motorsports has been repairing specialty vehicles for over 30 years. We are experienced in all facets of the process. Specialized repair can be challenging due to many variables involved in the repair process. Our background allows us to guide a customer from start to finish, including assistance in starting an insurance claim to executing the repairs while providing guidance for any modifications along the way. Our shop is equipped with the necessary tools and equipment to complete repairs on just about any vehicle, and we have many resources that help aid vehicles back to its pre-accident condition.

One of the keys to having a successful repair is having a shop that is capable of guiding the customer, like dealing with the complicated processes from insurance companies and locating the correct parts for repair or replacement. ROAD TRIPS… what memories do YOU have?

We’ve all taken road trips…
But what have been your most memorable? Why? Is it because of where you went? Or who you went with? Or what vehicle you drove in? Whatever the reason, there is that one memory you have, and we want to hear it! So reply to this post with yours! Here are a few of mine!

OUR FIRST ROAD TRIPS…
For us, my sister and I were fortunate enough to have family and friends that loved traveling the intercontinental North American region. And whether it be traveling, or just working on them, I would say most of our memories were based around cars, lol! But there is something about road trips!

Since we were a few years old, my moms parents have taken us to San Felipe in Baja. 

All of the grand kids would ride in the camper on our grandpa’s 1980 Chevy Pick up. Then we would hit the beach and ride 3 wheeler’s all day long. Those were the good old days! 

Then, when I turned 12, my sister and I took a cross county trip during summer with my dad’s parents. With the trip being almost 2 months long, we had tons of memories, lol! But I do have a most memorable! You all remember grandpa Lou right?! Well I was always dubbed navigator. For some reason I was good at directions and remembering landmarks. These were the days of Thomas guides and AAA Trip Tik maps. So as my grandpa and I were coming to a crazy big freeway interchange, it got confusing to me, but I finally said … I think you are supposed to go that way grandpa … as I pointed to the off ramp that we almost passed! But he quickly turned the vehicle towards where I pointed because he knew I would be right. And my eyes grew wide as we flew across a few lanes in our Winnebago on to the correct highway. Grandpa didn’t say a word… just kept on driving! Lol! 

And of course… I remember my dads first fully custom painted 1979 Ford F100 Ranger. Standard cab short bed. Bright yellow with custom graphics. Just the right proportions. I remember when we would drive in it, and he’d let me shift! That was the coolest thing! But I really remember just how many cool places that ride took us too. Mostly Pismo beach… I loved driving down that beach! 

Well, it’s amazing how many great memories we have based around vehicles, or where our vehicles have taken us. Truly a vehicle is just that, something that transports you somewhere! And even empowers you by what it looks like and what it can do. ! I always say they are extension of our personalities! I do have a Supercharged 635 hp Raptor, lol! Just saying! And we now have this amazing Super Duty that has already given us enough memories to share for a lifetime! 

Vehicle’s are truly such a huge part of our daily lives. Look at how many memories our vehicles give us! Look at how they impact our lives. Look at the memories you will create with your next generation. 

We know how important those memories are, and we’re happy we can help make them possible. We’re here to help you create that connection, that bond, of using your vehicle to create memories that you will have the rest of your life.

Are YOU Ready to Off-Road

We know that many of our customers and friends are getting out there and exploring our beautiful land that God gave us…. and we always encourage people to do so as it’s one of the our favorite things to do!
But we want to ask you…. are YOU OFF-ROAD ready?
Here are a few things to think about before hitting the DIRT!
FIRST…I want to talk about understanding YOUR ability as a driver….Do you know what you are capable of driving and feel comfortable navigating the terrain? It is so important to drive within your comfort zone. Having a Co-Pilot is always a great idea to help you navigate a more difficult area on the trail. Each obstacle has multiple lines that you can choose from, so always choose the path of least resistance. You may need to get out of your vehicle, and walk it before hand to see if there are going to be any challenges you might not be able to see from the driver seat. Look for rocks or objects that could possibly damage your vehicle as well. When coming off an obstacle is there going to be something that may damage a shock mount, axle housing, or spare tire ?
Always off-road with a friend, it’s not safe to travel alone. If you need to find a buddy to join you there are great social media group pages or forums with others that are looking to head out. We do a few group day and weekend trail days here in SoCal….If you are interested Click here and it will add you to our list of trail run emails, and make sure to follow us on social media to stay updated on current events, and projects.
Make sure you let someone know where you are heading out on a trail and when they should be expecting you back. If you don’t have someone to call, you can notify the forest services for that area, and ask the Ranger what radio channel they are using. We have a Rugged Radios race radio (you don’t always have cell service) so having a Radio or CB to communicate is important. In the guide book that we use (there is a link below) it has a phone # to the local forest service that oversees that area. I also use OnXmaps to track my trip. The tracking feature on their app is a great way to figure out where you are, or to send to a friend to help find you. If you don’t have service to send your location as a text message, you can radio in the coordinates.

SECOND…We want to talk about your VEHICLES ability. It’s really important to have your vehicle set up correctly for the type of trail or terrain that you want to explore, and to be prepared. The biggest part of being prepared is knowing the ability of your vehicle.
This involves having the correct suspension set up, wheel/tire combination, and all the necessary trail equipment on your 4WD. We can help you achieve the proper set up for you and your rig. Another key to being prepared is to properly maintain your vehicle. You invest a lot of money in your rig so make sure to protect your investment by doing preventative maintenance, and service. Inspect your vehicle to insure it is in good working condition and off-road ready before heading out on the trail. If you have had your vehicle modified at our shop, we showed you the painted bolts on your new suspension set up,  these help you inspect for loose bolts and parts. Even your stock factory bolts can loosen up from rough trail driving. So make sure those lines are always lined up, and your vehicle is inspected before you hit the trail. Before hitting any trial we recommend you walk around your whole vehicle to inspect for issues, make sure your fluids are toped off and you have no leaks. This includes inspecting these components prior to any trip; lights, 4wd, jack, compressor, winch or whatever you might need to use out on the trail. It is key to know your vehicle and be familiar with it.

THIRD…. Know your trails. There are so many ways for you to find a trail….Apps, Guide books, group pages on social media and just plain old exploring. Many trail heads have signs and markings letting you know the levels of the trail… They are called Trail Rating. One of the most important things before you hit a trail is knowing how to read the signs of the trail head and the markings on them before you enter. Depending on what area you are in, there are different ways a trail head is marked. If you don’t know the difference between the trail ratings, there are many websites and books that you can look up that will explain what they mean. Some trails will give you a rating of 1-10, others will give you Diamonds and some have different color markings. One fact that I have learned is…trails are always changing. Depending on how often the trail is traveled, or mother nature deciding to come in and change it herself. Trail conditions, and difficulties can literally change overnight. If you come to an obstacle that you don’t feel comfortable navigating DON’T be afraid to turn around. You already know what’s behind you so if it’s safer to turn around then risk an obstacle you are not ready for…

Changing the world with color.

Where I find my inspiration… T

I really don’t know where my love of color came from or exactly where it started, but I seriously love color… oh and painting! I could paint a wall and be happy, lol! Yes I love it that much. I truly want to brighten the world with color! As you know, color is a sensory state appealing to our sight. All different kinds of color engage us with a different type of emotion, and its just so cool that color can affect’s your mood. It can totally change your state.
MEMORIES… As a child, I remember everything from going to the desert and watching the “golden hour” of sunsets dance across the shimmering sand dunes to the expansive beaches of Pismo with the white, blue, and green waves crash against the silvery sand. So for me, I notice the color in everything, even as a kid. To say the least… the color I see is truly inspired by the nature around me! There is something magical about being outdoors.

INSPIRATION… So as I started to paint and design more, I realized I wanted to be able to recreate moments like those memories I had when choosing and creating colors. So that even without “golden hours” happening, when you looked at the paint, there would be something about it that you knew was magical and would take you to that place, to that moment where it elicits that same feeling in that moment.

In moments like those, everything is organic, and its changing. I think that’s my favorite part… the change that’s happening in the moment. To me, you have to keep things interesting, make it something that people will love looking at time and time again, so if you can make the color so it has properties that change, it keeps it interesting.

Overlooking Johnson Valley from a distance (where King of the Hammers takes place)… admiring all the different tones of brown that show up across the terrain. The Ranger is shown taking on a deeper look, and the color highlights the shape of the body, just like the terrain ahead.

The color green elicits a feeling of calm, security, peace, nature, health, balance, growth…

CHOOSING A COLOR… When I choose an actual paint color for any build there is usually a series of things I do to make sure we are getting the color, and the effect that they really want the color to have. First, “how will they use it?” Then, since people are usually drawn to certain colors, I will have them look through magazines, to see where their eye keeps going. We all tend to have favorite colors we migrate towards! And then, what do you want this color to say. Yeah, colors talk, lol!
So for our Baja Forged Ford Ranger, the idea was that it would always be off-roading, whether it be Baja, the SoCal deserts, or the sculptural terrain of Moab, it needed to have a color that blended in to its environment, but still stood out. So we wanted something that gave a more natural, organic vibe, not something that was blatant and in your face. We wanted it to change colors as much as the landscape around it does.
Personally, I like golds and yellows, remember I do love sunsets, so you will tend to see those colors incorporated into many things I to design or paint, lol. Guessing you are currently seeing lots of yellow and gold in this blog post, lol. So with the Ranger, I chose green. I have always loved military green, I love the outdoors, and I love gold, but really wanted something that almost was camouflaged in its environment. I love subtly in a way that something blends in, but also stands out all at the same time.
CREATING THE COLOR… When I custom mix a color, I will look at the color in different lighting environments, to make sure it has highlights, shadows, and has a sense of depth that draws you in. So, my first thing for the Ranger color was that it was going to have a ton of gold pearl for that “golden hour” glow. Then I wanted to start to see which tone I wanted this green to have, I wanted it to be able to blend in throughout different environments, so we darkened it up a bit. I also love muddy colors, lol, so we added some white to it as well to give it that solid color look most of the time, but when the pearl hit, it took on a whole new life.
Mixing this color was different. It felt different. I wanted to be able to make a really big impact, but still be subtle and under the radar. You don’t know how many people have told me they love the color! That is what I want. I want people to love what’s around them, what they see, what they do. For something to give them a sense of joy just looking at it!
I also want it to make them think. “How did they get the color to do that?” Keeping people guessing is always fun, it leaves for intrigue. Its not black and white, its all the colors in between! With that being said, I do know that my mission is to help change the world with color! Well one of my missions anyway!
COLOR THEORY… Color has meaning. The color green elicits a feeling of security, peace, nature, calm, and wellness. The nature part I spoke about, but its pretty cool that it has all these other effects as well! The color gold elicits passion, courage, wisdom, magic, and a sense of grandeur. I like that! Probably why I use that color a lot! Things we think about… but don’t really think about, lol. Time to start thinking about them more!
MIXOLOGY…So, how do I make a custom color? Well it does take me quite a bit of time, lol, but its worth it! I originally started out using solvent based paint, and that doesn’t sound like a big deal, but it is! With solvent based paints, you could mix a color and when you looked at it in the cup, that is exactly how the color was going to look sprayed. Ok maybe slightly darker, but pretty darn close. But with waterborne paints (that I have still been using for almost 15 years) it took a little while to get used to! The paint does not look the same from when you mix it to when you spray it, so everything has to be done with a specific formula and then sprayed out to see what the results are. But the results have been phenomenal! Its like anything, you have to really get to know it, to understand it, so once I understood all the different qualities each toner had, it got easier each time!
With paint, the colors are specifically weighed out on a scale down to the grams. It is very specific if you want to get a perfect color match. It’s all chemicals. I tell people its more like baking than cooking. If you don’t get your ingredients perfect, and in the right order, at the right viscosity, and the right temp, then you won’t get the same results. When temperatures change, you have to make changes.
When I teach pin striping classes, most people tell me that they have tried and failed. I tell them, I can teach them, and yes I am confident in that. The one tip that I ca’t stress enough is to have the right viscosity of the paint, the thickness of the paint. It can’t be too thick – it will drag the brush, give you dry jagged marks. It can’t be too thin – it will blob all over, run, and be transparent. If you don’t have that right viscosity to begin with, you will fail at everything else you do when it comes to painting, any kind of painting!

Here are a few words from her, about our Baja Forged Ford Super Duty.

Designing a build… it first starts with function… the what, why, how, etc. The vision that you have of how it needs to function for you. But then of course, you have the vision of how it needs to look, and one of the reasons people choose to come to us is because of our style! We love to be able to invigorate your ideas with our infusion of style and function! Our Baja Forged Ford Super Duty is the perfect example of function and style coming together and showing you all… WHAT… WE… DO!

The SD came about because everyone loved our Ford Ranger, and the color that I custom blended in my mixing lab using all PPG paint. So this was all about building its big brother, and recreating the color palette and our design aesthetic in an exciting new way.

The function started with the Pronghorn utility bed that we had to make our own by putting some custom touches on it. So when I saw this big square bed, I knew it needed some work. We had already decided that we would add some modularity to it by adding some cross bars, but when the bed was placed on the truck, I sat staring at it … I am all about stance! I will sit looking at the side profile in a gaze… its like the Mona Lisa… proportions are everything. There is something about having the right proportions on something that makes it so aesthetically appealing, but most people don’t know why… its proportions! So when I saw the bed on the truck, and we already had the wider carbon fiber fenders in the front, the tires in the rear stuck out like a sore thumb! Well, that must be taken care of, and people… when they see that I’m in my gaze, they know its just more work for us all, lol! So, as I gazed at it, I realized we needed a rear fender flare. Mind you, its small, not even that big, but I tell you, you might not even notice it, but it really does make ALL the difference in the world!

So, that is one of the ways this project evolved… but really I’m supposed to be talking to you about the paint work, lol! The final touch to a vehicle… but is it? This project literally revolved around the paint color. People could not get enough of it! And what’s funny is I’m not a green person, lol! But I am a gold person! OK, that’s a lie, I have been a little partial to military green. So I really came up with a color that had tons of gold pearl, so when the light hit the body lines, gold would shimmer down them revealing all the amazing curves. So as you know a Super Duty does not have too many curves to begin with, so we handled that by adding our Baja Forged 5” bulged prerunner fenders in … yes… carbon fiber. I knew, to make an impact on this vehicle, those fenders needed to be carbon fiber, and the color would look amazing against it… and over the top of it! Then of course, the beauty of the color I mixed is that it is a candy, so it is very translucent, like a candy apple. Even with the red candy over the top of the apple, you can still see the apple through it. So with the green over the top of the carbon fiber, you can still see the carbon fiber through it. One of my secrets is to always make it so something is moving as you walk by it so it catches your eye. So from a distance, you can see the green, but if you walk by it, you notice the translucent carbon fiber shimmering through the golden flecks and green tone. Yeah, I like this stuff, lol! Hope you enjoy looking at it!
The cool part was many people showed us how much they liked it as well! We won a Ford design award at SEMA 2019, a Pro-Eagle award at SEMA 2019, and PPG did a feature ad on me and our truck (shown above). Pretty rad stuff! Super grateful for the reception, and I hope that comes through in this reflection… as I LOVE doing this! And I hope it shows, that our whole shop loves doing this, because there is an amazing team that truly makes this ALL happen!
So check out our Super Duty and all the other great stuff on it. It fulfilled our needs, but some of these products might be able to help fulfill yours. Sara is going to go more in depth on the products, because I just make them look good, lol! OK I use them too.

BAJA FORGED SUPER DUTY

The functionality of it all… with Sara

Here is Sara Morosan, our in house tech guru, to tell you more about the function of the Baja Forged Super Duty from her view.
Our Super Duty has already attended a couple of events and won a few awards….. but what we love most about our builds are getting to actually use them!
After its debut at the SEMA Show in November 2019 we have attended the King of The Hammer (KOH) in Johnson Valley, CA and The Mint 400 in Las Vegas.
I don’t know what we love most about our truck since there are so many great upgrades done to the truck and we haven’t even used all of them yet!

Suspension, wheels, and tires…

To us one of the most important things is Suspension. It is so important to invest in a good suspension set up that you can trust and still has all the qualities you are looking for.
We get customers that want to find the lowest priced suspension for a truck or SUV that they just spent a lot of money on, and they usually plan on keeping their vehicle for a least a few years. So why would you want to put the cheapest suspension on your vehicle? A better quality suspension will save you money in the long run.

For us we look at three major things when picking a suspension setup for our personal vehicles, and for our customers…. Is it Reliable?….How does it handle on road?…..How does it handle off-road? We went with the ICON Vehicle Dynamics Stage 7 set up on our Ford Super Duty. We really wanted to build a truck that we could drive in comfort for our long road trips, but also handle off-road when we are out in the middle of now where. A lot of times when we are heading out to an event we have a fully loaded truck and usually a trailer full of product, and/or show vehicles that we are taking out. So reliability is huge for us and I hope that it is for you as well.

I don’t know about you, but all of our vehicles are our daily drivers as well as our off-road vehicles. So when looking for a suspension kit, we focus on products that offer comfort on and off-road. We have found at times you may have to sacrifice one for the other. When we started running the ICON Vehicle Dynamics kits we realized that we could have booth. One of my favorite things about giving rides to people is their reactions to how impressed they are with the ride quality of the kits.

Wheels and tires
We love the wide front end set up with our Baja Forged Carbon Fiber front Fenders, but we wanted to make sure that we filled it out correctly with the right wheel and tire combo. A lot of people understand the importance of making sure that their tire has the correct rating to tow the heavy load, but they often neglect that their wheels also have a weight rating. Knowing that Method Race Wheels offers their HD series wheels that have a heavier load rating up to 4500lbs, we thought they would work perfect for our project. If you are looking for a heavy duty wheel, make sure to check them out.

Next we wanted to find a tire that would help enhance and work well with the rest of our set up. We decided to wrap our Method Race Wheels in a set of BF Goodrich 37×13.50R18E Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tires. These tires are a great looking and a great performing tire as well. They offer a quiet stable on road ride, yet perform excellent when out on the trail. They feature extra sidewall protection which really comes in handy when in areas with sharp rocks and trail debris that can cause flats. The last thing we want to do is change a flat out on the middle of the trail, but we have our Pro Eagle jack mounted in the bed if we need to. 

Equipment…

As soon as we hit the trail we air down for better ride comfort and a larger foot print for better traction in the dirt. One of the things that we stress so much to our customers is having the right equipment and products on their rigs. One of the first things we added to our truck was the Viair Corp On Board Air (OBA) system. It is so important to air back up before hitting the highway again, for your safety, plus it helps keep your tire maintained at its proper air pressure. Our OBA Viair system works flawlessly to get us back on the road again, and keeps us from having to wait in any long lines at the gas station for air. The OBA has come in handy in many ways not just for airing up tires. We also have it plumbed to air up our Hellwig Product Helper bag set up for towing. Once you have it you will never want to be without it.
 
We have not used our Tepui Roof Top tent yet and I am really sad about this, but with all this social distancing maybe I will be able to head out for a secluded camping trip soon, and get to use it. So far we have set it up a couple of times for shows, and find it very easy. We have had the soft style tents before, and find they are harder to set up than the hard shell style rooftop tent. So far, this Tepui hard shell tent seems to be a much more convenient set up and much lighter product…I think I am going to really like it, but I will have to let you know once I have actually used it…..so stay tuned for an update.
I do have to say I love our ARB Awnings. This is not the first time we have had the awnings, but every time I am more impressed with them, and how useful they are. The only hard part of setting them up is my height. I can’t really reach them with our large trucks, and it makes it hard for me to do the set up by myself, but with the help of a friend it is a really easy and fast set up. It is so much nicer not having to carry around a big bulky Ez-up.
 
Ok, so my new favorite products
We installed the 60 gallon Transfer flow tank, at first I was a little hesitant on the upgrade….but until I had to make the drive to Vegas for The Mint 400 and I didn’t have to stop to get gas….Game changer! I don’t know about you, but I am in a zone and not having to stop makes a world of difference. Plus, I was towing our trailer with a SXS on it as well, and I try to avoid going through gas stations or crowded areas when I am towing. I am really glad my sister installed the Katzkin leather seats as well….These things are so comfortable, and since I never had to stop to get gas a comfortable seat was a must. All the hands free Scosche Products we received came in super handy as well. It was like I had my own personal set up for my comfort, and it worked with our Ford CarPlay. I didn’t have to take my eyes off the road once.
 
All in all, so far I am really happy with all the products and set up of our Ford Super Duty…I can’t wait to use it more and really put it through some more testing. I think the biggest thing I am looking forward to is using the B&W gooseneck set up. We haven’t needed to use it yet, but I can’t wait to see how it pulls. Unfortunately, I will have to wait till we are all off of this quarantine, and can get back to traveling again.

Re-Cap of our trip to The Mint 400

A few weeks ago, we headed out to The Mint 400 also known as the Great American off-road race, held in Las Vegas, NV. We have been attending this race for many years, and I have to say, the detail that the Martelli Brothers and their team put into this is pretty darn impressive! I was watching “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” the other night, and all though it’s a strange movie, it was great to see some of the details that are still incorporated in today’s race, which is pretty amazing. A few years ago Theresa received one of the famous limited edition decanters when she raced, and they truly are a work of art in their own! After watching the movie and seeing the decanters in it, this made me realize that even though I knew they would be a collectors item, also seeing it as a piece of history made me love the sport even more. Because this truly is what we have a passion for! So, it’s just awesome to be able to cherish these moments that we have together and be apart of history!

This year we did things a little different… While every year we have a great time and get to meet so many amazing people and see old friends. This year did not disappoint, but we did change things up by beginning our trip in the dirt. We went off-roading, all the way from Barstow to State line. Once at the Mint we got to meet new friends, saw some old friends, taught some classes with the Real Deal Renegades, went to parties, stayed in Old town Vegas, walked the Off-Road festival, went to a concert and watched some off-road racing! It was quite a week, life doesn’t get much better than this! It truly was an epic time and I can’t wait to go again next year. I hope that ALL OF YOU can one day join us in experiencing this off-road race and a part of history!

Off-Roading to The Mint 400….Barstow to Vegas!

We left on Wednesday and headed to Barstow, CA where we hit the dirt at the Lake Delores water park that is located just off the 15 Fwy and ended the trip at Primm, NV overlooking the solar field.

We headed down Powerline road that was a total of 209 miles in the dirt. We stopped on the way a few times to check out the sights and had lunch at the Coliseum mine, which was truly epic. Make sure to check out our photos below of all the great places we stopped and a video that Auto Revolution made of the trip.

We took 3 of our LGE-CTS Motorsports vehicles on the trip with us. Our Ford Super Duty did not make it our on the dirt since it was carrying most of the Real Deal supplies for the booth but our Ford Expedition and Ford Ranger were out there tearing it up with its Icon Vehicle Dynamic suspension systems.

I would like to give a huge shout out to Dirt Dynamics for helping lead the trip and pre-run it with us.

Real Deal out at the Off-Road Festival

The Real Deal Renegades came along for the trip and set up their booth on Thursday and Friday at the Off-Road Festival in downtown LV, where they taught welding and painting classes to the spectators that stopped by. One of my favorite things about the Real Deal Renegades is watching how excited these girls get to share their talents with others and to see how excited people get when they learn something new! Theresa and Kayla were teaching paint classes but both have their different style and techniques. Ashley was out there teaching welding

Another Huge thanks to The Mint 400 for their support of Real Deal Revolution , which is a 501c3 non-profit. We all had an amazing time and the races were always great to watch. I can’t wait until next year! Make sure to mark your calendars for next year’s race and event … you don’t want to miss!

Theresa was teaching pinstriping and Kayla was teaching Helmet art. Both are super talented girls and it is just awesome to sit there and watch them share their magic.
One of the newest Renegades is Ashley. She has been helping teach classes for the last few events and she is doing an amazing job.

Race Day….Race Day…..Race Day!

Race Day….Race Day….Race Day….Who doesn’t love Race Day? Am I right?

Race day is one of my favorite days, the smell of race trucks in the air is a beautiful thing. The races start super early and have different start times throughout the morning depending on the class you are in. Of course, we were out there cheering on all of our friends and our favorite teams that were out racing and it was super fun to see some of them cross that finish line. It’s amazing to see the time and effort that goes into racing. The passion and love these guys and girls have been beyond anything I have ever seen. So, it is truly an honor to cheer, scream, cry and laugh with these teams of amazing people.

After the races were dying down we headed over to the VIP tents, listened to the amazing race commentators, looked at some awesome walls of art filled with old photos of past races, drank some great beer, and had some amazing food.

Like I said earlier, its a great time and the Martelli Brothers and their team do an amazing job bringing in all the best of the best. I don’t have all the stats on the races, but below are some links to catch up on the latest news and some cool gear that you might have missed.

In early April this year the LGE-CTS team headed out to our 5th Easter Jeep Safari 2019 in Moab, UT. We can honestly say; it is one of our favorite events! We left early Sunday morning and drove straight through to Moab. Every year we always have quite the caravan and this year was not different. We were joined by our industry friends from Rollin’ Big Power (RBP), Advanced Accessory Concepts (Trigger Controller), and Hellwig Products. The first stop was Peggy Sues for breakfast, while we waited for the whole group to meet up. It was a surreal moment when you just feel so blessed to have so many great friends and the opportunity to go on work trips like this one. Yes, for us this is a work trip, but for many this is a bucket list trip with family and friends… if you haven’t been you need to go!!

This year Louie was able to join myself and Audry out on the trip, which was super awesome! Now that he is retired, he was excited about joining us on this amazing trip, plus we were able to take out our Jeep and our new Ford Ranger. I was way braver this year on the obstacles that I tried too since I knew my dad was there to help me just in case I broke anything major, lol.

Early Monday morning we met up at the arena for the annual Skyjacker run which this year was the trail head Steel Bender. All the trails out in Moab are beautiful, each one of them bring a totally different terrain or viewpoint. Steel bender is more of tree lined trail and has great obstacles. I was able to use my Warn Winch for the second time in my life. I tried to pick a hard line and got caught up on a rock. Our friends at ICON were nice enough to help us out and we used their Jeep as a winch point. A few of us split from the group and went to spend the day with ICON and we watched Tom Wayes play in his race car. It was pretty freakin’ cool to see what he can do in that car and how it handles so well. Makes me want to race!! The rest of our group finished with Skyjacker run and we all met up for dinner to reminisce about our days and the great times we had before we headed over to Zak’s for an industry party.

Tuesday morning was another early start as we headed out to join the Jk Forum and Hellwig run, Metal masher. This is my second time doing this run, so I was a little braver on trying some of the obstacles. I started to get to brave and attempted “Widow Maker” well I didn’t make it…I had to use my winch for the second time, and I broke my spare tire carrier. Thanks to Icon again for helping me winch out and Mike from Hellwig for changing my spare tire carrier for me. I do have to say we got a great picture of my dad standing under my Jeep. Lol. Maybe next year, I will have better luck! That night after hitting the trails Audry and Melanie (Hellwig) headed over to the Ladies Off-road network to go visit a few of our friends and then we all met up for dinner and to celebrate Melonie’s birthday.

Early Wednesday morning, we joined our friends from ICON on the Trail “Fins’n’things.” I did part of this trail last year in my dad’s black Super duty with Full-size invasion and it was definitely different. Doing the trail in a Jeep was way easier, lol. This was a pretty cool trail, lots of big slick rock sections but had some great switch back area’s that we were able to go fast and got some great shots of all of us. It was a fun day with a smaller group of people. That night we headed over to the RBP party at Woody’s and had a great time hanging out with friends, it’s hard to see everyone during the day so it’s great to still be able to catch up with them in town.

Thursday morning was our turn to lead a trail. Joe Bovee at R&R Marketing helped us plan a trail ride on Hell’s Revenge and was able to take out all of our friends from SEMA / TORA. Even the SEMA president and the Chairman of the board joined us. R&R Marketing team lead the group and made sure we hit all the great spots. ICON Vehicle Dynamics was part of the group and they brought Tom Wayes with his Ultra 4 race car … and he was giving us rides! How awesome to be able to go for a ride in an Ultra 4 car with Tom Wayes…well you will have to make sure to check out some of the video’s from that day for sure. This by far was my favorite day…. We spent time with industry friends that we only get to see out at the SEMA Show and being able to hangout in a different environment and do the things that we love to do with them was amazing. Hellwig products brought out their CJ2A which was a blast to watch go up everything. This really was such a fun day! That night we met up with all of our SEMA / TORA friends for the Town Hall Meeting and the TORA launch party. It was a great party with music, great views and even better company. Later that night we headed to Grandpa’s Garage to meet up with our friends from GenRight Offroad for a night cap before we headed home.

Friday was finally our mellow day…We hit up the show at the arena to go and visit all the booths to see if we could find any new products or cool clothing we couldn’t live without. We came across this cool welding trail kit called “__________” it gives you the ability to weld small thing on the trail that might need to be fixed, like brake lines and radiators. I was pretty impressed with it. When we were finished at the arena, we headed back out to the trail Fins’n’things with ICON and did the second half of the trail again, because we had so much fun on it the last time we were on it. It was a bittersweet trail ride since it was the last one for the week and we were going to head back to camp to pack up and head home.

All of our rigs did amazing and we couldn’t be happier with how our week went. It’s pretty cool to go out and really push yourself and your vehicles to the limit especially when you know you have good product on your rigs that you can trust, there is nothing more important. Plus, my dad didn’t have to help me fix anything major. Part of the reason we go out there on the trails is for product testing, we want to be able to let our customers know firsthand how something works, and how it holds up. We want to make sure we can sell products we believe in.
